Rabies Clinics 2009 Spring is here and it is time to remember to get your pets vaccinated. Are you aware that the law requires all dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets be vaccinated for rabies every one to three years? As a result of this law, and people getting their pets vaccinated, there are very few cases of rabies in Franklin County. Some people who have indoor cats feel that they don’t need to vaccinate their pet, but the number of rabies cases in cats is high. A cat is more likely to come in contact with a rabid bat or raccoon than a dog, even if the cat is an indoor cat. Therefore it is important to vaccinate your cat for rabies even if they never go outside. Rabies vaccinations are also available to domesticated ferrets. All dogs, cats and ferrets must be at least 3 months old. All pets must be restrained by a leash or carrier and accompanied by an adult
